Portuguese Wine
Great, however not impressive. 99 Oddbins) 12/99 Despite suffering on the racks of a local branch of Threshers for a couple of years (the current release is 1998, I think), this wine was still extremely much alive.
Both wines are the exact same colour, a dense purple black, but right away this red wine stood out since of a blast of sweet new American oak. On the palate there is a strong cherry part, high acidity, and spicy vanillin oak. Buy Portuguese White Wine would be unfair to state that it is overoaked, as the oak balances well with the spicy, bitter fruit, making a well rounded plan.
On the nose there is sweet fruit with a seconary herbal quality. On the palate there is a tasty mix of blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrant and creamy vanilla. My only criticism is that there is something missing out on from the midpalate– the total flavour is a little flat right in the centre of the flavour spectrum.
Portuguese Wine
On the taste buds this wine is sternly tannic: it is not fruit-driven, but rather shows notes of herbs, tea, chalk and minerals, with the result of the Portuguese oak evident. Very structured and dry, but a good food match and a take at 4, for what is rather a major, if stern, wine.
99, Majestic– part of the bin-end sale, so hurry). 2/00 Luis Pato is the name everybody points out when the Bairrada area is talked about: he’s been producing white wines from 62 ha of family owned vineyards (in 23 different plots) given that the early 1980s that have actually been drawing in a lot of press.
They are potentially extremely outstanding; I state potentially, due to the fact that all these white wines will actually need a years or so to truly show at their best. They are not widely offered yet in the UK. The retail cost will be some 15-20 per bottle, so they are not low-cost, although this is sensible for the quality available.

5/00 Luis Pato Barrio 1998From 70 years of age red wines, this provides a little bit more on the nose. There are cherries and some meaty notes. Bright fruit on the taste buds, with company tannins. Good. 5/00 Luis Pato Quinta do Moinho 1998Once again, a company, tannic red wine. White Wine and complex; great stuff that requires time to show its finest.
